Brampton's Moot Hall

South of here is The Lake District - wonderful scenery, picturesque villages, for walking, climbing, boating, or just lazing about.

The names Wordsworth, Ruskin and Beatrix Potter might be familiar to you.

Just North of Carlisle are Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders (and Gretna Green if you're so inclined!). The scenery is overwhelming but never overwhelmed by tourists. Check out the bleak splendour of The Hermitage.
